Case description
An approximately 45-year-old patient without known pre-existing conditions collapses after physical exertion or swimming. Emergency services bring him to the emergency department.
On admission, he shows a hemodynamically unstable tachycardia. The systolic blood pressure is approximately 80 mmHg.
Initial treatment with amiodarone is performed, but without success. The blood pressure remains low. Thereafter a synchronized electrical cardioversion with 150 Joules is performed. Subsequently a second ECG is recorded.
The treating physician assesses the first ECG as ventricular tachycardia (VT).
